IT is to be hoped that the Royal British Legion and the Salisbury City Council make a better job of celebrating VJ Day in August than they did for VE Day on Friday.
The parade was frankly pathetic. A few standards, a few veterans (myself included ) and, most welcome, a detachment from 32 Regiment Royal Artillery, the Wiltshire Gunners.
About a quarter of the City Council was present. The publicity beforehand was non-existent. After the parade, a number of people asked me what had been happening.
