WILL we ever see an end to the Stonehenge/A303 saga?
Surely the bottom line is that the road needs to be made into a dual carriageway, but does not need to be put in a tunnel. To propose such a course is an expensive pipe dream which will only slow or prevent the necessary upgrading, and the discussion regarding the archaeological site at Blick Mead (Journal, November 5) surely proves the point.
The accompanying photograph clearly shows Blick Mead alongside a section of the A303 that has already been ‘dualled’, and as such there is absolutely no need to disturb either the site or the road during the essential improvements. If Historic England et al want to hide the road from the Stones (which seems to be their main aim) the road builders can use the spoil from a second carriageway to form an embankment or ha-ha between the two.
As the meerkats would say, “Simples”.
