As if the figures in Rebecca Hudson's article of last week (September 13) regarding house burglary investigations aren't bad enough, (only 25% investigated throughout Wiltshire) we are now faced with the future prospect of this unacceptably low figure being reduced even lower by a computers decision whether or not to investigate based on the evidence available.
Evidence, by the way, that victims must submit themselves by email.
This practice, already adopted by a number of hard pressed constabularies, is a criminals charter.
As ratepayers we are entitled to at the very least, a visit by the police to take details and perhaps a photograph of the damage at the scene.
Considering we in this part of the country would be unlucky to be burgled once in a lifetime, it begs the question, is our police force worth our lifetimes subscription or is time we looked for a better form of protection?
