ON Friday afternoon, my husband (almost 86) had a fall in Fisherton Street, just outside the Mylor and Mawes furniture shop. He landed on his back and hit his head, which then bled all over the path. I could do nothing as I am disabled and was balancing on a walker.

We would like to thank the wonderful people who helped us – the couple who stopped, the man calling an ambulance and the lady (a first aider) seeing to my husband, the lady from a hair salon across the street who brought towels to put under Geoff’s head and mop the blood, and a lovely young man who stayed until Geoff was pronounced fit and kept chatting to me to calm me down. The ambulance arrived within minutes and the two medics, Ian and Brendan, had Geoff in the ambulance for 20-30 minutes, cleaning him and checking his BP, etc, and making sure he hadn’t been unconscious or in pain or giddy or anything else before saying he was fit to go home. The first couple had left by then and I forgot to ask their names and that of the young man who sat in the car with me talking to take my mind off everything.

They were all wonderful and we are so grateful to them. Other passers-by had also stopped but went on when they saw things were under control. Thanks to them too for asking if they could help. Things like that restore your faith in human nature! Once we got home Geoff was all right and has seemed to have had no after effects. I just wished I had remembered to ask their names. At least Geoff had the sense to ask the medics for their names.

Thank you.
