REFUGEES are very much in the news at present. The home secretary has declared a 'major incident' in the Channel because just over 200 have attempted the crossing since November. Many newspapers have talked of a 'crisis'.
To give a more balanced view, the Salisbury Amnesty group is hosting a photographic exhibition in the Methodist Church featuring the plight of refugees around the world. Taken by award winning photographers, it shows the desperate conditions millions of refugees live in in camps and holding centres. The number coming to the UK is but a tiny proportion of the total.
The group hopes that the photographs will bring a better understanding of the conditions endured by refugees and some understanding of why they make the desperate journeys to escape.
The exhibition is free and will run until February 4.
