FURTHER to the letter ref Salisbury turning into a ghost city (Journal Postbag, January 17) – it's not the fault of the Novichock incident last year but it's the greedy landlords and council charging exorbitant rent and rates driving shopkeepers out of the city. Added to which there is the excessive car park charges, yes free parking after 3pm but not everyone wants to shop late in the day. I see Shoon is closing after 21 years on the New Canal and Russell and Bromley has gone as well. Do councillors not visit other towns and cities that have independent shops offering something different. Think on planners, there is little point in a regeneration programme if there is nothing in the city to attract visitors other than the cathedral and charity shops!
