I TAKE great issue with Councillor Church's claim (Journal, January 31) that Salisbury Library "is not fit for purpose". In my opinion it is entirely fit for purpose on its current site. The library provides first class services in all departments, as well as being a focal centre for both Salisbury residents and the wider community.
I put little trust in politicians who claim that in two moves from now Salisbury will have "a bigger and more impressive" library than we currently have. It seems that Wiltshire Council is fixated with moving our excellent library anywhere from its current site so that a grand entrance can be made to the ill-advised Maltings retail and cultural site.
I urge all residents who are concerned about this issue to sign the petition against such a move, and to remind all councillors that local government elections are not that far away.
