I TOTALLY agree with the sentiments of both Tom Ridout and Barbara Hare in last week’s Journal. What is the point of the recent ‘Ladders of Light’ installation in the cathedral? For whose benefit is it? The ladders are a talking point for visitors I suppose, but mostly people who come to the Cathedral are content to appreciate the beauty of the building without plastic adornment, and enjoy the spiritual atmosphere it engenders. The beautiful flower arrangements always in evidence, compliment this feeling, without need for any other man made embellishments. Visitors enjoy the peace of the building in its superb natural surroundings, and should feel free to do this without distraction.
