The origins of the fire that damaged most of a pub’s thatched roof recently has now been confirmed.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service were called at 5.14 pm on Wednesday, May 10 to the Crown Inn at Alvediston and consisted of 60 firefighters and 12 fire engines along with specialist vehicles attending the scene.
A spokesperson for the DWFRS said: “The fire was originally located in the chimney area and spread to the roof.”

Photos were taken by Bridport fire service who responded to the call at 21.48pm.
The crew had to locate a suitable hydrant as the local hydrant could not provide enough water.
Water was taken from a local stream and the remaining Bridport crew provided support on the ground assisting with thatch removal and utlising the aerial ladder platform.
