Tributes have been pouring in for the young man killed in an attack in New Canal.

Old friends, people who knew of him but also strangers have been sharing messages and memories in our book of condolence, set up to showcase the outpouring of love from people in our city for Freddie Jones-Fontete.

The 23-year-old has been remembered for his "electric personality" and his love of football.

Ciaran Wells, who used to play with him on Wilton Road, said: "He was always smiling and joking and laughing and embarrassing everyone by nutmegging them.

"There is going to be a vast hole left by his passing, and Monday night football won't be the same without him."

Amy Kelly said she and Freddie used to go to parties together when they were younger and "have the time of our lives" while friend Mark McBurney said: "We may have only known each other for a few years but I'm privileged to have known you at all".

How did you know Freddie?I didn’t

Leave your tributes and memories hereI would like to send my heartfelt condolences to his friends and especially his family, nothing can prepare you for losing a child in life but to have one taken to though an act of evil is horrendous, may he rest in peace and who ever did this pay for what they have done, no sentence will ever be enough.

How did you know Freddie?Old Friend

Leave your tributes and memories hereFreddie was the nicest boy ever, he always made everyone feel welcome and happy in his presence. Fred would always be the happiest boy with the biggest smile on his face, I remember when we were younger we would go to parties every weekend and have the time of our lives, the good old days, may you rest in peace, a life taken far too soon and an absolute tragedy to everyone that knew him ❤️

How did you know Freddie?I played football with him every Monday night.

Leave your tributes and memories hereI only met Fred 2 years ago but he became someone I would see nearly every week at the Wilton Road Astro Turf pitch. He was always someone whose team you wanted to be on due to his exceptional footballing quality. If he wasn't there one week, you wouldn't just miss a great footballer, but an electric personality too. He was always smiling and joking and laughing and embarrassing everyone by nutmegging them. There is going to be a vast hole left by his passing, and Monday night football won't be the same without him. Miss you big man.

How did you know Freddie?Used to play football with and against him

Leave your tributes and memories hereFreddie was an incredible, happy go lucky chap who always brightened everyone’s day. Even in our toughest battles on the pitch, he always showed the upmost respect to me. He was always around for a friendly chat gleaming with a big smile. It is a massive tragedy this has happened to such an incredible young man. A hole will be left in the City of Salisbury 💔❤️

Leave your tributes and memories hereFreddie, we may have only known each other for a few years but I'm privileged to have known you at all. You lit up any room with your infectious laughter and made the world a better place. Will miss you my mate, and never forgive you for launching that paper plane further than mine. Sleep well buddy.
