The city is mourning the death of 23-year-old Freddie Jones-Fontete, the victim of the attack on New Canal over the weekend.

Freddie, who died in hospital on Wednesday (February 23), suffered a serious head injury in an attack in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A vigil was held on New Canal yesterday evening to honour him, and tributes have been flooding in on social media.

Freddie is remembered for being "caring, kind and funny", with a smile that "lit up a room".
