1. The Scribes

The Scribes, a multi-award winning hip hop act from Bristol are heading to The Winchester Gate in Salisbury today (March 18).

The group’s extensive touring has seen them perform and collaborate with some of the biggest names in the scene including Macklemore, Rudimental, MF Doom, Dizzee Rascal, Lethal Bizzle, Example, De La Soul, Wu Tang Clan, Wiley, KRS One, Four Owls, Goldie, Sugarhill Gang and Chase and Status to name but a few.

2. Salisbury Fringe Theatre Comedy Highlights

Two nights of theatre comedy are being held at The Chapel in Salisbury today (Friday March 18) and tomorrow (Saturday 19).

Salisbury Fringe Theatre presents “Comedy Highlights”, featuring half-a-dozen short comic pieces.

The bite-sized comedies will showcase the talents of writers based in and around the city. Between them, the sextet of authors can boast a track record of success, have previously enjoyed popular runs at theatres in London, Bristol and of course, Salisbury itself at the annual Fringe Festival.

3. Gates Wide Open

The exhibition has opened this week at Salisbury Arts Centre and runs until May 7.

Gates Wide Open is the result of an open call out for work by UK-based graduates of the creative disciplines who have been affected by the Covid pandemic.

The panel of selectors for Gates Wide Open Exhibition comprised Zarina Muhammad and Gabrielle de la Puente and Jody Mulvey. This panel represents contemporary voices of professional arts activists who fight for the exposure and correct treatment of emerging ideas and talents.

The selected artists chosen are Claudio Pestana, Kialy Tihngang, Li An Lee and Liv Collins.

4. Farrant Singers

The next Farrant Singers concert will be marking a special milestone.

The event tomorrow (Saturday March 19) will celebrate the 70th birthday of its co-director, Andrew Barry Mackay, hence the title ‘A Birthday Miscellany’.

Everything in the programme has some connection with a part of Andrew’s life and this will all be explained by two of his dearest friends, Richard Brett and Paul Burgon.

Joining The Farrant Singers as guest conductor is Ralph Allwood, the organist Robert Quinney and a string quartet with Daphne Moody, Miranda Dodd, Andrew Bellis and Rickman Godlee.

The concert takes place at 7.30pm in St Martin’s Church in Salisbury.

5. The Legend of Sleeping Hollow

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow at Salisbury Playhouse runs until tomorrow (Saturday March 19).

6. Car Boot Sundays

Car Boot Sundays are returning every third Sunday of the month from Sunday (March 20) and run until Sunday October 23.

The car boot is open to sellers from 7am and to buyers from 9am until 1pm.

7. Mark Bruce Company - Dance triple bill

The award-winning dance theatre company, Mark Bruce Company, is heading to Salisbury this month.

The dance company will bring a triple bill to Salisbury Playhouse on March 22, 23, and 24.

Loaded with mystery and imagination, ghosts and trolls, as well as dancing and a superb soundtrack, Phantoms completes its UK spring tour in Salisbury.

Artistic director Mark Bruce says the triple bill has “something for everyone”.

8. Comedy at The Chapel

Some of the biggest names in UK comedy are set to perform at The Chapel in Salisbury with the first event taking place on Thursday March 24.

This stand-up showcase includes Angelos Epithemiou, Garrett Millerick, Dana Alexander & Paul McCaffrey.

All of the performing cast have enjoyed impressive TV appearances and have performed at the most prestigious comedy festivals.

Epithemiou is best known for appearing in the last three seasons of ‘Shooting Stars’ initially replacing Johnny Vegas as a panellist, before replacing George Dawes (Matt Lucas) as scorekeeper.

9. Mere Amateur Dramatic Society

Mere Amateur Dramatic Society (MADS) has announced its first production of 2022.

‘Post Horn Gallop’ is a farce by Derek Benfield.

The production is dedicated to the memory of MADS member, June Hewett (1937 -2021), who excelled in comic roles. She took part in many MADS plays, variety shows and pantomimes, and won the award for Best Comic Performance at the 2009 Woolstore One Act Play Festival.

Performances of ‘Post Horn Gallop’ are at 7.30pm on Thursday March 24, Friday 25 and Saturday 26 at Mere Lecture Hall.

10. An Evening without Kate Bush

Acclaimed performer Sarah-Louise Young (Cabaret Whore, The Showstoppers, La Soiree) has teamed up with theatre maker Russell Lucas (Warped at VAULT Festival) to explore the music and mythology of Kate Bush. The production will be at Salisbury Arts Centre on Thursday March 31.

From releasing Wuthering Heights at the age of 19 to selling out the Hammersmith Apollo nearly forty years later.
