AN immersive theatrical reimagination of Shakespeare's play The Tempest is coming to Churchill Gardens.

The unique open-air performance will span roughly one kilometre across the gardens and last two and a half hours.

Rehearsals are well underway after Wiltshire Creative launched its "biggest call-to-action" for volunteers and young people.

There will be 17 total performances of The Tempest and it will run from May 24 until June 4.

Alcoholic and non-alcoholic refreshments will be available from the bar but audiences are advised to bring snacks or a picnic.

The "accessible" production is open to all ages with some performances giving audiences the option to hire a mobility scooter.

A Wiltshire Creative spokesperson said: "The Tempest will be a unique theatrical event to kickstart our warm Salisbury summer.

"All members of the public can embrace this immersive experience, moving from scene to scene with wonderful community contributors and professional actors and musicians.

"This is a fantastic project that promotes taking part and introducing audiences to Shakespeare in an immersive, site-specific theatre experience."

The play's description reads: "A mighty storm shipwrecks a King and his entourage on an island of magic and mystery. It is a place of music and visions, surprising encounters and unlikely friendships. But what secrets does this island hold? Who or what is really in charge? And will the world ever be the same again?"
