A MAN has said 'justice has been served' after challenging an alleged driving offence charge in court.

Animal health advisor, Justin Young, 51, was stopped by the police on February 8, 2022.

He was told he had driven through a red light in his Kia Sportage while on the Castle Road roundabout but was adamant he had not.

Justin, of Woodstock Road, Salisbury said: "I went through a green light which changed to amber just as I went past it. I made the correct decision to not stop suddenly as my wife and son were in the car."

Justin said he could have decided to just take the fine and points on his licence but his licence was clean and he believed strongly that he was in the right, so decided to challenge it.

On Monday, March 20, the case was heard at Salisbury Magistrates' Court and Justin defended himself.

He said: “As I said in my opening statement to the magistrate, I had already lost physically and financially. The whole case took over 13 months to come to a conclusion and this has sat heavily on my shoulders and played havoc with my anxiety."

"There was no bodycam or dashcam evidence against me and I had to face the constable via a video link in the court."

He said he was relieved it was all over.

Justin said: “Regarding my small victory in court on Monday, the whole thing was to just clear my name.

“Justice has been served. It was very daunting to represent myself, but I will say the magistrates did a good job of helping to calm my nerves.”

Justin was awarded costs to cover personal expenses to be paid from central funds in the amount of £14.55.
