A MAN accused of stalking sent eight emails to his ex-girlfriend before branding her a "dirty old whore", a court heard.

Jack Charles, of Fairfield Road, pleaded guilty to stalking without fear, alarm or distress at a hearing in Salisbury Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, March 28.

The 29-year-old appeared in the docks after being arrested for breaching a no-contact order.

He had replied to a message from accuser Laura Holt (sp) which broke the order.

Charles stalked Miss Holt over a number of weeks in March, 2023, after their one-year relationship ended in December 2022.

Holly Fagan, from the Crown Prosecution Service, told the court that Charles went to Miss Holt's house in Old Sarum in an "emotionally distressed state saying he had terminal cancer".

Miss Holt told him to leave, which he did, after calling her "heartless".

One day before Mother's Day Charles sent a parcel and two cards to Miss Holt's home.

Then, on March 19 she received an email from Charles wishing her a happy Mother's Day.

Two days later a second email was sent by Charles which said: "In relation to the flowers I wanted to make you feel special but never thought you would be so ungrateful."

In a fifth email to Miss Holt on March 25 Charles wrote: "I have no feelings for you. I will get through this cancer on my own and if I don't you win."

The last email to Miss Holt saw Charles call her a "dirty old whore".

A statement from Miss Holt was read out in court, she said: “I just want the whole situation to stop. I’m fed up with the situation. He is making up things he said on the email and it is making my life difficult.”

Duty solicitor William Griffiths represented Charles, he said: "[Mr Charles] is a 29-year-old with no previous convictions and he’s never been before any court before.

"He was arrested at 10.25am yesterday and has spent 25 hours in police custody to reflect.”

Mr Griffiths claimed the rules around no-contact had not been properly explained to Charles and he was not aware that replying to messages would breach the order.

He added that Charles does have suspected cancer and should have been getting it checked out in Swindon on the date of the court hearing.

The magistrates warned Charles about no contact and stressed that "no contact means no contact whatsoever even if the other person contacts you".

He was released on conditional bail to not contact Miss Holt or go to her address until proceedings are finished.

Due to the nature of the offence, a pre-sentencing report had to be produced before Charles could be sentenced.

This sentencing will take place at 10am on May 18 in Salisbury Magistrates' Court.
