A YOGA studio says it is "offering as much as it can for the Salisbury community".

It comes as the Salisbury Business Improvement District launches Indies Week, which runs from July 1 to July 7 and is part of an ongoing campaign promoting independent businesses in the city.

Ilona told the Journal: “It is around the back of the Maltings there are the steps up to Sainsbury’s and the table tennis tables it is there, so in the old party season shop as was.”

“It’s been open for the last two months, so we’ve been running classes and workshops and we’re expanding as we go and the potential is to open the other side as well in the next month or so.

“At the moment we have yoga, a tarot clinic workshop every month, we have ladies doing art workshops, meditation, and we’re just expanding slowly but surely so we have a lady coming in doing dance, another lady who is interested in doing pregnancy yoga so we’re just slowly building it up which is lovely. It’s available, as long as it’s legal, for anything.”

Ilona admitted it has not all been plain sailing: “I will admit it’s been a bit tricky with the River Park project and all the car parking disappearing, and hearing about what is going on in Fisherton Street also is not great."

Ilona also offers drinks and bi-weekly sound baths in the studios which she says go really well.

“So, you turn up you lay on a mat with lots of blankets and cushions for an hour and I play lots of healing instruments and it is a supremely relaxing form of therapy. It results in better quality of sleep, lower levels of stress and anxiety, and a general feeling of wellness. Those are running every other week on a Friday evening and they’re going really well.”

“We’re offering as much as we can for the Salisbury community, and the aim is to keep doing that.”

She added: "We are seeing a lot of people with reasonable levels of stress, but if we can provide a service that allays that, that’s what we’ll do.”

The BID says Indies Week "is a rallying call for everyone to recognize the significance of independent retailers and their positive impact on the local economy".

Yoga Stuff is at 8 The Maltings, and is open Tuesday to Saturday.
