A writer best known for creating an award-winning mystery-crime TV drama will premiere his new comedy play in Salisbury.

In 2013, Chris Chibnall became a household name after writing ITV drama Broadchurch, which starred David Tennant, Olivia Coleman and Jodie Whittaker.

For three series he kept audiences on the edge of their seats as the crimes unfolded on our screens.

He was then the executive producer and head writer of BBC's Doctor Who from 2016 until 2021.

In 2024, the Playhouse will host the world premiere of One Last Push, Chibnall's new original comedy about the unexpected and often hilarious dramas of childbirth.

Describing the play, Wiltshire Creative writes online: "A raucous new comedy from the writer of Worst Wedding Ever. Jen and Mark have done the NCT classes.

"They’ve written the birth plan, in precise detail. They’ve even got the birth pool ready in the living room of their new flat. Almost.

"Everything is set for the perfect, calm, idyllic home birth. Except they’ve reckoned without intrusive family, nosy neighbours, uninvited guests and a new flat full of unwelcome surprises.

"Chris Chibnall’s new play hilariously depicts what happens when one of life’s most magical events gets hijacked… by life itself."

One Last Push will be at the Playhouse next year from February 15 until March 9.
