AN ANIMAL charity gave away free vegan cheese in Salisbury on Thursday to encourage people to ditch dairy ahead of Lent.
PETA “cheesemongers” offered up a vegan cheese board and handed out leaflets by the Poultry Cross to encourage locals to ditch dairy during Lent (February 14 to March 28).
Signs reading, “Cows Never Lent Us Their Bodies. Try Vegan Cheese!” adorned the table.
“Cows are gentle, intelligent animals who, when given the chance, nurture their young and form lifelong friendships with one another – but such pleasures are denied them on dairy farms,” said PETA Senior Campaigns Manager Kate Werner.
“PETA is asking Salisbury locals to show these sensitive animals compassion during Lent and beyond.”
