A BUSINESS owner was caught using his phone by police while driving a fruit and vegetable delivery van.

Matt Sherman, owner of Central Fruits, was pulled over by Wiltshire's Roads Policing Unit after officers reportedly saw him on the phone while driving through Salisbury on Wednesday afternoon, March 13.

The 35-year-old was branded a "melon" by an officer who, in a post on X, said they weren't "berry impressed" by Mr Sherman's "grape idea to use his phone whilst driving".

The officer added: "Six points impeding (sic) along with a £200 fine #Plumbelievable #CitrusGotReal."

Wiltshire Police launched its road safety campaign 'Project Zero' in August 2023 following the death of 13 people on the county's roads last year.

This campaign aims to crack down on the 'fatal five' driving offences which includes excess speed, using a phone while driving, not wearing a seatbelt, careless and dangerous driving and drink and drug driving.

Mr Sherman told the Journal he was the one driving the van while on the phone but declined to comment on the incident.
