A SIGN defacing a new mural was a "mistake" according to Wiltshire Council.

The council installed a sign over a recently-painted kingfisher mural on the Salisbury Central Car Park toilet block today, Thursday April 4.

Just hours after it was stuck to the wall, Wiltshire Council decided to take it down after realising it has been placed "in error".

It was put up along with several other signs directing drivers into the small section of electric car parking spaces.

Krishna Malla, 38, also known as Tech Moon, painted the mural and did not wish to make a comment when approached.

Councillor Tamara Reay, Wiltshire Council’s cabinet member for transport and assets, said: “Unfortunately the sign was placed on the building in error as this location has not been approved for any signage.

"As soon as the mistake was realised, an instruction was issued and the sign removed.

"We apologise for any concern caused.”
