A lorry got stuck on a narrow Salisbury road trying to follow a diversion due to gas works.

Wiltshire Police had to shut Dews Road on Monday, April 22, after a lorry got stuck turning into West Street.

Traffic is being forced down the tiny road due to the closure in place on Fisherton Street after a gas escape was discovered on Saturday, April 20.

The lorry managed to escape the tight corner by reversing down Dews Road, narrowly avoiding the cars parking along the road.

"Our engineers have identified a gas escape in the middle of the carriageway, therefore Fisherton Street remains closed westbound at the roundabout of Dew Road and South Western Road.

"We know this is a busy area and want to apologise for the disruption this is causing.

"All being well, we hope to have completed our emergency work, reinstated the road surface, and have the road fully re-opened by the middle of next week.”
