THOUSANDS of pounds has been given to a scouts group to renovate their headquarters as part of the National Grid's Community Grant Programme. 

The programme awards funding to projects in areas which are close to active National Grid sites and Salisbury and  South Wiltshire Scouts received £5,000.

The renovations at Dennis Marsh House will enable the Scouts to continue with their work teaching skills to people but in a facility that has been much improved. The benefits will also be experienced by residents in the area as the facility serves an important venue for community events.

A speaker for the scouts, John Wyeth said: “Dennis Marsh House is the heart of Salisbury and South Wiltshire Scouts, so we are delighted at the opportunity to invest in such a vital community resource.

"Being able to keep the headquarters in tip top condition will not only let us provide new and exciting opportunities to our members, but also help us bring benefits to the community in Salisbury as a whole. We would like to thank National Grid for the brilliant support they have given us and for their generous funding.”

Land regeneration advisor at National Grid, Charis Loza said: “The funding given to Salisbury and South Wiltshire Scouts is a great opportunity for National Grid to give back to the local community.

"It has been great seeing how excited both the Scouts and their leaders are for the renovations at Dennis Marsh House. We hope they enjoy their improved home.”

National  Grid place a strong emphasis on creating positive connections with the communities they serve and the funding for the Scouts will enable the provision of many opportunities for local children and for the wider community, including clothing donation drives, outdoor adventure days and leadership teaching sessions.

National Grid and its specialist contractor Englobe recently remediated a nearby former gasworks site at Coldharbour Lane, Salisbury and environmental improvement work was carried out including the treating of topsoil and the laying of clean stone.
